ABOUT

We are a one man, one woman custom furniture shop, in the Mountains of Western Maine.   We are extremely passionate about making beautiful, functional pieces of furniture for our clients. Future family heirlooms that can be used and enjoyed for generations.   We always are looking for new ways to expand our knowledge to produce a more sophisticated all around final product.  Each and every piece we make is handmade entirely in our shop, from the selection of the finest hardwoods, the fitting of each joint to the final finish. 

 

    Before becoming full time furniture makers, we both worked in hands-on, creative fields.  Matthew as a finish carpenter,  custom home builder and woodworker, and Moriah as a gardener/ landscaper, creating landscapes with plant material and stone.   We both discovered the world of furniture making on our own. Through trial and error and a focused dedication and passion for the craft, we learned the ins and outs of furniture construction and joinery. We studied a variety of different styles of furniture, learning about design and the importance of balancing strength and functionality with great overall proportions.  We studied, and came to understand the various aspects of wood and how to construct a piece of furniture from solid wood while still allowing for the seasonal changes that wood goes through. We also have researched, experimented, and honed our finishing skills to create furniture that truly displays the natural beauty of the wood, with a wide range of finishes in our repertoire to meet the variety of needs of our clients.  We also spent time in Vermont, further studying our craft. These combined  experiences solidified our dream of creating handmade custom furniture, full-time.  

    We now enjoy “commuting”  across the driveway to “work”, where we enjoy working with clients around the country to create pieces of handmade furniture using spectacular woods, future family heirlooms that truly belong in their home or office.   

    In 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 we were selected as one of Americas Best Craftsman and listed  in the  Directory of Traditional American Crafts by Early American Life magazine, along with being a juried member of the League of N.H Craftsman. Our work has been featured in Old House Magazine, Old House Interiors and the Early American Life Directory Issue. We are featured in a new book, Artisan Furniture : Bespoke, Studio, and One-of a kind that was released in December of 2012.
